Bellflower-Somerset Mutual Water Company (BSMWC) crews will begin construction Monday, April 4, 2022, on a pipeline installation project along Leahy Avenue and Maplewood Street that will improve water service for its nearly 50,000 shareholders.

The Company will be installing 1,300 feet of 12-inch mainline. Work will be performed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday, April 15.

“This work is part of the Company’s ongoing commitment to investing in the water system – pipelines, pumps, and equipment – to ensure water reliability,” General Manager Steve Lenton said. “The new main will minimize leaks and main breaks and increase water flows for firefighting.”

Trenching and repaving work will limit traffic on the west side of Leahy Avenue and the south side of Maplewood Street. Parking and driveway access in the area will be restricted during construction hours.

Shareholders in the construction area may experience a temporary disruption of water service that could last up to eight hours. They will be notified at least 24 hours in advance of any planned service interruption.

If there is a shutoff, affected residents should turn on a faucet or showerhead at the highest point on their property to purge any air in the plumbing. Construction may dislodge sediment in pipes, making water appear cloudy. If this occurs, run water until it is clear.
